Vocation for peace, commitment with humanity
Uruguay, founding member of the United Nations, presented in July 2008, its candidature for a non-permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council, for the period 2016-2017. If elected, Uruguay would be returning to the Security Council, 50 years after its first and only term in that body.
In this context, our country will seek to contribute to the maintenance and consolidation of peace in the world, as well as promotion and protection of human rights and the protection of civilians in armed conflict. It will also advocate for disarmament and non-proliferation and for the respect to the rule of law, international law and international justice.
